Hello and Welcome

To my children: These are letters to you, that someday hopefully you will read, when you are older and much more wiser.

We're Back

I thought I’d make some trace cards for Haylie. She has these great trace cards that I bought at Toys R Us over the summer. She practices with those about 3 times a week. I have actually noticed such a big improvement in her alphabet tracing. I think it is because they do a lot of trace sheets at school. Amongst other things, in class she is also learning how to write her name. They have these trace cards with each child’s name on them and when you sign your child in you have to help them trace their name. So any who, I thought I would work with her more on tracing, in particular, her name.

I think the alphabet trace cards I bought Haylie are a hit. If money is tight you can always print out the alphabets on cardstock paper ( I think you can do 4 to a sheet) and glue each sheet that has the four letters on it back to back (you know: glue the sheet with abcd to the sheet that has efgh). Then you can get it laminated at staples or something. Then cut out the alphabet squares. Put a hole punch in each card and put a ring on it, add a kid friendly dry erase marker…and you are good to go. That's it for the craft corner. We are putting Christian in karate in October. Because he isn’t quite 2, there just isn’t much for him to do “alone”. He did a stint in Kindermusik , but their schedule was not compatible to mine. This is something that he and Mr. Hampton can do together while I enjoy a break with Haylie.
We officially started Christian in timeouts Yesterday.. I waited until Haylie was 2 to start hers, he started his 2 weeks early. If there wasn’t a need for it, then I wouldn’t do it. But I can tell he is testing and learning his boundaries…so of course this will better help define things for him. I brought out “the chair” and started the process on this little guy .It went a lot better than i thought it would. When he threw something, i took his hand, walked him to the chair in the corner and explained why he was in time out. Left him there for exactly 1 minute (his age) then talked with him again and let him out. He went to apologize to Haylie for throwing his toy at her. He had the saddest face in timeout, I ALMOST took him out because he looked so sad.
